The 1861-1865 period of the War Between the States stands out as the most
significant event in the development of the United States.
The story of the war's participants, especially the Confederates,
continues to fascinate students of the era. For a number of reasons, original
photographs of Confederate soldiers are quite rare.
Those that are extant are usually found in museums, private collections or
in the possession of the soldier's descendants. These photographs have not
received much analysis from the point of view of pictorial interest. Yet,
they provide valuable historical information. They are an excellent visual
record of the South and of the men who fought for her during the "Rebellion." ORDER FORM
In 1975, Lawrence T. Jones of Austin, Texas organized a publishing and distribution
company called CONFEDERATE CALENDAR WORKS. His purpose is to locate, research and
publish for the historical record as many Confederate images as possible. Published
in a calendar format, each month is illustrated with an original photograph of a
Confederate soldier. Detailed historical information concerning each photograph is provided.
Additionally, every day of each month has a listing of interesting and informative wartime
history, such as major battles and events.
